Ubuntu 5.10 aka "The Breezy Badger" is out!

Postby afonic » Thu Oct 13, 2005 1:03 pm

Today the new stable version 5.10 of Ubuntu Linux was released!

You can read the release notes here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/newsitems/release510

You can download Ubuntu here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/

There is only a single 650MB installation disc in case you wonder.

Starting with 5.10 a special version for servers will be released. You can download the latest ubuntu-server from here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily/current/

In case you are new to Ubuntu or Linux generally, this guide will get your started:
http://www.ubuntuguide.org/
(be aware that this is for 5.04 and not 5.10, the package repositories sources are not the same, so wait for the updated guide if you want to add extra repositories to Synaptic)

Have fun!

A perfect example of a useless and contra productive post.
You know... arguments an that... :?

And btw great news. Time to upgrade. :D
I hope that changing the sources.list and apt-get dist-upgrade will do the trick?

In my "test" system (on VMWare) it did work. I read posts about braking some people's systems though so I didn't try it in my main PC yet.

Forgot to mention in my first post, for those that like KDE, there is an "official" Ubuntu distro that uses it, named simply... Kubuntu!!

Have a look:
http://www.kubuntu.org/

It follows the releases of Ubuntu, so it is in 5.10 as well. Downloads:
http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php

If you already have ubuntu, installing the kubuntu-desktop via apt-get or Synaptic will do the trick!
