Try gate.polarhome.com instead of ftp.polarhome.
There have been problems lately - possibly linked to the loss of permanent IP addresses.

BTW date for fix IP delivery is 21st of June. (Earlier it was 31st of May)
No special explanation/reason for late delivery - simple this is a budget solution and customer satisfaction is not as important.
I just hope that the quality of delivered service will be high. ISP is www.bredbandsbolaget.se

I tried using gate.polarhome.com and got an almost identical error (couple of the port numbers are different).

Command: PORT 192,168,1,2,5,20
Response: 500 Illegal PORT rejected (address wrong).
Error: Could not retrieve directory listing

I guess ill wait for this IP to get sorted out.

I also have a slightly different question. What does it matter to the users which OS their site is hosted on? I only choose openBSD since its an OS ive always wanted to try.

If you do not plan on using a shell acount, I imagine any of the polarhome servers would allow pretty much the same possibilities. I happen to prefer OpenVMS, but as far as I know there are no plans to install MYSQL there; OTOH OpenVMS PHP is extremely robust.

'Robust' fits most OpenVMS software...

I planned to install mysql on alpha once, but I have never done that... for some reason - and it happened to be forgotten later.

Over the past weekend I did a trial installation of mySQL on OpenVMS (it reqires installing ZLIB and OpenSSL first)

I had a couple of hours fun playing with it. Apparently the version of PHP on OpenVMS only handles something called 'old-style' passwords, which means users need their passwords set with OLD_PASSWORD('password') - I hope this means something to someone; It seemed to work for me.

Anyhoo: I can bring the kits over to alpha.polarhome and install them one of these coming week-ends, if there is a demand. I still haven't figured out how to open users automatically, nor how to set disk quotas on the mySQL database(s) - as far as I can see they are all stored under MYSQL_ROOT:[DATA] and owned by the mySQL server

Input, please.
