Yeah and if safe_mod was off then a young evil kid that you banned from your forum for some reason could open and account and send 10,000 emails to block your mailbox.

For a free hosting service like Polarhome, safe_mod is the way to do, I have not test if php mail is available in Mandrake, but if you want to have a full working forum, you better get one of these cheap hosting plans.

@maorl
What the heck does safe_mode have to do with mail()?
I suggest that you read some documentation on safe_mode, and then come back here and have a proper reason to why should safe_mode be disabled.

@afonic
again, safe mode has NOTHING to do with mail().
mail() is disabled via disable_functions, not via safe_mode.

Has there been an issue yet that can be resolved with safe_mode off and not some other way? Seems like most people are confusing mail() [being disabled] with safe_mode, but from what I gather all safe mode does is prevent some stuff that shouldn't be happening anyway.

(PHP scripts acting on files that aren't from the same person, right?)
